Re: Measles
Measles is a very infectious disease which is currently circulating in the West Midlands. It spreads easily and can lead to serious health complications and even death, especially in unvaccinated children. Most of the cases in England have been in children under the age of 10 years with many outbreaks linked to nurseries and schools.
The best way to protect your child and prevent Measles spreading is to ensure that they have received two doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Vaccine.
The vaccine is safe and effective, and two doses gives excellent lifelong protection.
If your child has missed out on their MMR vaccine, or did not receive their second dose, it’s not too late to protect them. The School Age Immunisations Service is offering a free MMR catch-up clinic:
Location: Walsall North Locality Family Hub, 275 Blakenall Lane, Walsall, WS3 1HJ
Date and time: Saturday 11th April, 9am – 1pm
How to book: Telephone SAIS on 01922 902035
Booking is preferable but no school aged child (from y1 and above) will be turned away if you would like to drop-in on the day. If the dates of this clinic are not convenient, please contact your GP, who will be happy to arrange for a vaccination.
For further information on Measles and the MMR vaccine please visit MMRV Vaccine (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, And Varicella Vaccine) | Vaccine Knowledge Project
In addition to the MMR vaccine, the clinic will also be offering catch up vaccinations for the following missed vaccinations: MenACWY (Meningitis A, C, W, Y), DTaP/IPV (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis / Polio) and HPV (Human Papillomavirus, where age-appropriate).
